ACROSS SOUTH SUDAN: At least three people were killed, and seven others injured last night after an unidentified number of demonstrators took to the streets of Juba and Aweil to protest the killing of South Sudanese nationals in Sudan.
The protests turned violent, resulting in gunfire that caused casualties, looting, and the burning of three houses belonging to Sudanese nationals.
Addressing journalists this afternoon, national police spokesperson Col. John Kassara confirmed the incident, adding that the injured were rushed to Juba Teaching Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, dozens of Sudanese nationals are being offered protection at police stations.
BOR, Jonglei State:
Sixteen people were injured during a violent demonstration in Bor town this afternoon.
Several shops were looted, though authorities have confirmed no gunshot wounds or fatalities.
In response to the unrest, integrated security forces—including police, military, national security, and other organized units—have been deployed to protect the Sudanese community and their property.
Currently, 1,721 individuals are sheltering in police stations and government buildings across Bor town.
Jonglei State Governor Majoub Biel Turuk has urged residents to return to their homes, emphasizing the importance of safety and calm.
MALAKAL, Upper Nile State:
The acting governor of Upper Nile State, Deng Joh Angok, has strongly condemned the attack on Sudanese traders residing in Malakal’s Protection of Civilians (PoC) site. The violence resulted in significant property damage.
Governor Angok stated that the violence was a retaliatory act following the recent killings of South Sudanese nationals in Wad Madani, Sudan.
He confirmed that both the state government and UNMISS forces successfully contained the situation, relocating over 50 traders to safety outside the PoC site.
WAU, Western Bahr-el-Ghazal State:
A joint force consisting of the police, SSPDF, and National Security Services is responding to youths attempting to storm the town’s main markets and loot shops owned by Sudanese nationals.
Security forces have been firing warning shots into the air to disperse the agitated crowd.
Shops remain closed, and most roads in Wau town are deserted as residents stay indoors.
BENTIU, Unity State:
Heavy security forces have been deployed across major markets in Rubkona, Bentiu Town, and residential areas housing Sudanese citizens in Unity State.
Authorities confirmed that no incidents have been reported so far, and the situation remains calm across the state.
